In the article published this month at World Journal of Gastroenterology, it reported  a case of an uncommon leiomyoma-rectal leiomyoma.

Giovanni D De Palma, Professor, from Department of Surgery and Advanced Technologies, Center for Technical Innovation in Surgery, University of Naples Federico II, School of Medicine, Naples, Italy and his colleagues describe a case of a leiomyoma of the rectum presenting as recurrent lower gastrointestinal bleeding and secondary anemia.

The article presented a case of 55-year-old woman who complained of recurrent rectal bleeding and secondary sideropenic anemia. From Colonoscopy it performed a polypoid, submucous, ulcerated lesion in its vertex (2 cm from the anal margin). Endoanal ultrasound scan showed a mass located in the anterior wall of the rectum, approximately 7 cm in size, with no infiltration of perirectal fat. With a preoperative diagnosis of rectal LM, the mass was removed by local excision with preservation of the rectum, according to this article.
