In previously article about vitamin A supplementation, it was said that an oral administration of Vitamin A for several
days after birth can reduce infant mortality as its finding from trial in South Asia. One of jornal published newly at March 2009 stated that there is no strong evidence in reducing risk of mortality and morbidity after neonatal supplementation with vitamin A.
One of BMJ journals had published an article about this vitamin A findings. There is no convincing evidence of a reduced risk of mortality and possibly morbidity or of increased early adverse effects after neonatal supplementation with vitamin A and also there is no need to justify for initiating such supplementation as a public health intervention in developing countries for reducing infant mortality and morbidity, according to the article.
Siddhartha Gogia and Harshpal Singh Sachdev from Department of Paediatrics and Clinical Epidemiology, Sitaram Bhartia Institute of Science and Research, B-16 Qutab Institutional Area, New Delhi, India conducted a systematic review of randomised controlled trials to evaluate the effect of prophylactic neonatal supplementation with synthetic vitamin A on mortality and morbidity in infancy and early adverse effects.
In their research method, they evaluated the effect of prophylactic supplementation with synthetic vitamin A in the neonatal period (<1 month), irrespective of maternal antenatal or postnatal vitamin A supplementation status, on mortality and morbidity in infancy (<1 year), and early adverse effects (within one week after the intervention). Describe also its Criteria for inclusion, types of outcome measures, Medical searches for database, Assessment of quality of methods, Data abstraction, and its Statistical analysis.
We found no convincing evidence of a reduced risk of all cause mortality during infancy or of an increased risk of early adverse effects, including bulging fontanelle, after neonatal supplementation with synthetic vitamin A.
And that is the conclusion of their research. Complete your information about Does Vitamin A Supplementation Can Reduce Infant Mortality? an Updated Finding by download its PDF Format /149 KB (source:bmj.com). See also another similar journal in this site.
