WHO Director-General Dr. Margaret Chan stated in press release by Thursday on June 11, 2009 that WHO declared an WHO Patient Care Checklist influenza pandemic. More than 70 countries were reporting cases of human infection with novel H1N1 flu. For the hospital staff treating anyone with a medically suspected or con?rmed case of new influenza A (H1N1), this checklist pointing key areas of care critical for the management of new influenza A (H1N1).

The statement of WHO is based on a reflection of the spread of the virus, not the severity of illness caused by the virus. The checklist itself intended to help ensure that all essential actions are performed but not to replace routine care. It can be used as part of the patient’s clinical record, reproduced as wall posters for hospitals or clinics, or printed up as cards for staff members to carry around with them.

The WHO checklist contains items such as Upon arrival to clinical triage, Upon Initial assesment, Initial and ongoing patient management, before patient transport, before every patient contact, before patient entry to designated area, before entering and leaving designated area, before and after discharging suspected case.

It is very encouraged that the WHO Checklist (in pdf filetype) is not intended to be comprehensive, and any additions or modifications should be fitted to local practice (source: who.int). See also an article about things to be prepared in physician office due to the pandemic.
